Graduate Student Presents Research in Symposium
Masa Gumiro was the first graduate student to present at the third annual Research Symposium in May. His Data Science practicum project "Tire Pressure Monitoring System" provided a custom solution using IoT (Internet of Things) sensors to monitor tire pressure and provide notifications in real time.
DNP Students Inducted into Honor Society
Seven DNP students were inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, Nu Omicron Chapter in March: Jacquelyn Adams, Megan Bontrager, Jannet Everson, Sarah Hunyadi, Kelly Leard, Geena Mapoy, and Yumi Otsuka.
Students and Faculty Present Research at ISHA
Several Saint Mary’s College graduate, undergraduate, and faculty research posters were presented during the demonstration hour at the Indiana Speech-Language-Hearing Association Convention 2019.

Catherine Shah, Kate Person, and Brianna Acosta '18 presented their individual practice innovation projects at the Midwest Nursing Research Society's annual conference in Kansas City, MO.
DNP Student Named to the Indiana Rural Health Association Fellowship Program
Desmond Atem, BSN-RN, pictured with Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb, was chosen to be in the first cohort of the Indiana Rural Health Association (IRHA) Fellowship Program. IRHA was founded in 1997 with a mission to enhance the health and well-being of rural populations in Indiana through leadership, education, advocacy, collaboration, and resource development. This fellowship program is targeted to students and early career professionals to better connect with rural leaders around the state and obtain a more comprehensive understanding of public health and healthcare in rural Indiana. Desmond is a Saint Mary’s College Doctor of Nursing Practice, Family Nurse Practitioner student.
Data Science Hackathon
Saint Mary's College is hosted its 2nd Annual Data Science Hackathon on March 1-2, a competition for teams of college students (or recent graduates). Cash prizes were awarded to the top teams of undergraduate students solving the data problem presented. This year the competition was centered around image processing.
DNP Graduate Presents Project at National Conference
Brianna Acosta, DNP, WHNP-BC, presented her practice innovation project 'Increasing Human Papillomavirus Vaccine Rates in Young Women' at Sigma Theta Tau's Creating Healthy Work Environments conference in New Orleans on February 23.
Data Science Graduate wins National Competition
Data Science graduate, Masa Gumiro, took first place in a Five-Minute Project Presentation (5MP) competition at the National PSM Association conference. 5MP provides an opportunity for students or recent graduates in PSM programs to make a concise but compelling presentation, using non-technical language, about their capstone project completed as part of their program, the reasons why they choose to complete their specific project, and the relevance and application of the project outcomes to their own goals as well as the goals of the organization.
Data Science Program in Top 10
Saint Mary’s Master of Science in Data Science was named one of Analytics Insight’s 10 Best Analytics and Data Science Institutes. This mathematically rigorous program brings an edge to analytics and data science education.
First Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree Conferred
Saint Mary's College awarded the first DNP degree on May 19, 2018 to Brianna Acosta.
