Advanced Clinical Practicum Blogs

Each semester of the MS in Speech Language Pathology program you will be working in a clinical practicum. Some of these experiences are on campus, while others that occur in your second year are off campus. Practicums involve direct client care for 32-40 hours per week for a minimum of 15 weeks. Depending on your preferences, the clinical need, and affiliation agreements, you could complete this final placement in your hometown or stay near Saint Mary’s. Your placement will start with observations and shared sessions with supervisors, but you are expected to move quickly into more independence and responsibility.

By the end of the program in your final clinical practicum, you will:

  • Be responsible for 75-100% of the caseload.
  • Have gained experience with a number of different client populations across the lifespan.
  • Have completed an average of 10-25 clock hours per week for a total of 100-200 hours over the term.
